Article title: Xaysomboun Shopkeeper Apprehended After Tying up Child
URL : The link is not usable. But, you can have a look on their Facebook Page 😊
As I was reading the article, a question came to mind: "Does the author give both sides of the story?" Is it balanced? ". Well, we can see that the article only provides the shopkeeper’s side of the story without mentioning the kid side. They explained why she tied him up, but they didn't even mention why the little boy stole products from her shop. As a result, the article is not balanced, which is difficult to give an opinion on it. Also, I wondered if the author was interacting or communicating with readers to lead them to a particular point of view. Or perhaps a biased point of view? From my point of view, I felt that the author tries to bring us to a particular point of view which is the point of view of the shopkeeper’s . They mentioned the reason she tied him up, which was out of anger. They also mentioned the video in which the shopkeeper apologized and shared how sad and guilty she felt. Additionally, they pointed to the fact that her husband posted a video apologizing on her behalf. So I think the author was trying to show us how sad and guilty she felt, and that we shouldn't discriminate against her on social media. Since I read the article several times, I wondered if this article was objective enough. Well, for me, I will go with a yes because while the author was writing the news, he tried to put the sources and who said what in quotation marks. So the author was objective since he did not give his opinion on the situation. However, we kind of feel like he wanted to take us to a particular point of view since he didn't give both sides of the view. That's why it's yes but not really convincing yes.
